The more we sit at our desks, the more one of our pelvic muscles contracts, causing a chronic tightness and pain in the low back, hip, groin and leg.
The psoas muscle is one of the most powerful muscles in the body. It attaches to all of the lumbar (low back) vertebra and the discs and travels through the pelvis to the back of the thighbone.
EVERYONE with low back pain or stiffness has a contraction of this muscle. Unlike all of the other external muscles, this one is nearly impossible to stretch out on your own. It can only be done through the abdomen with movement of the thigh. The release is usually immediate with a reduction in pain and improved range of motion.
